What is the standard of love for the Christian? Is it, “As you love me I'll love you? No, rather the standard of Jesus is in John 13:34, “As I have loved you, that you also love one another.” It’s easy to love the pleasant, agreeable person who is loving toward me, but what about the selfish, disagreeable, unloving, unlovable, maybe even the mean and hateful person – the bully?
Think of the example Jesus set. In John 13:1 “ . . . . having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” If he was speaking of His disciples, Judas was among them – Judas, His betrayer!
This is not something any human can do. It takes super human, divine power, the power of God . And Paul says in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
